National Governance Corps (NGC) adopted by ITI Schools, Bangalore

January 25, 2010 : National Governance Corps (NGC), an initiative taken by the SIV-G (Self Imposed Vigilance for Good Governance) has been adopted by the Schools run by the Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) Ltd., Bangalore.  NGC was first launched in December 2008 in DAV Girls Senior Secondary School, Gopalapuram, Chennai.  Shri N. Vittal, former Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) administered the Pledge to the first NGC.  Shri P. Shankar, former Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) released the NGC Handbook on 10th December 2008.  The details about the NGC and its progress are available at

The Founder of SIV-G and NGC, Shri G. Suresh, who is presently working as Manager(Vigilance) in BEML Ltd., Bangalore is also a Member of the Vigilance Study Circle, Bangalore (VSC-B). Sometime in January 2009, he made a presentation to the VSC-B Members on the NGC launch.

Subsequently, the progress of NGC caught the attention of the press and articles were published across the country. The Chief Vigilance Officer, BEML Smt. Kalyani Gopal, IRAS who is the Vice-Chairperson of VSC-B showed keen interest to launch NGC in the BEML Schools.  On persuasion, the BEML Management decided to adopt NGC in one of their schools in KGF as a pilot project under CSR.

Realising the far reaching potential of the NGC, the (VSC-B) appealed to its members to adopt the NGC in the Schools run by their respective Public Sector organizations.

The Chairman, VSC-B Shri M.K. Das, IPS and the members of VSC-B from ITI Limited, Bangalore particularly, Shri Venkatesh, Chief Manager (Vigilance), ITI Ltd., responded positively and quickly and arranged meetings with the S/Shri M. Arun Kumar, DGM(R-CA), ITI Ltd & Chairman of the Education Committee, K. Alphonse Kurien, DGM(HR & Vig), Devoor D Y, CM(HR-EP&S), ITI Ltd and Secretary of the Education Committee, Ramesh, Parthasarathy (both members of the Education Committee, ITI Ltd) and the Principals of the two Schools run by ITI Ltd.

Impressed by the initiative, its value and purpose, the Education Committee, ITI Ltd., decided to adopt NGC in the two Schools (CBSE and State Board- Vidya Mandir) involving students of 8th and 9th Standard. Accordingly, the Education Committee organized a meeting and asked Shri G. Suresh, Founder, SIV-G to address the students on 25th January 2010 in the Auditorium of Vidya Mandir School, KR Puram, Bangalore.  There was a gathering of about 250 students of Class 8th and 9th from both the Schools of ITI.  The entire Education Committee, the Principals and teachers of both the schools and also vigilance representative of ITI (Shri M.G. Ramachandran) were present during the address by Shri G. Suresh.  This is a solid proof in itself for the interest and seriousness the authorities had shown while adopting the NGC in their Schools.

The address was well received and as many as 250 students (almost the entire gathering) readily became part of the NGC movement.  Seeing their enthusiasm, the NGC Groups were also formed on the spot.  It was further decided to organize a formal function in which the NGC Pledge would be administered to the students. The NGC Handbook would also be handed over to them at that time.

With this adoption of NGC by the ITI Schools in Bangalore, NGC has made its entry in to yet another major city of India followed by Chennai.  As per the scheme of NGC, there will be an exchange of experience of NGCs in different cities and schools.  Plans are being worked out to make this happen.

Thanks to the initiative of the VSC-B and the right approach of the Education Committee of ITI Ltd., the NGC has taken yet another leaps forward in Bangalore.
